HGTV’s Worst Yard on the block. Season 1 — Episode 11
This front yard was designed for a busy family of four—two teachers raising their young boys, along with their dog and chickens. They bought the property dreaming of creating their own urban productive oasis, inspired by the fruit trees already growing there. The design brought that vision back to life with spaces for the kids to safely play, areas for the family to cook, grow food and gather, and quieter spots for the parents to relax and enjoy the yard.
We incorporated edibles, native and Florida-friendly plants, pollinator species, berry-producing shrubs, herbs and additional fruit plants to create a productive and wildlife-friendly garden. Because we wanted everyone to enjoy the garden freely, material choices mattered too. Natural mulch, natural-fiber bed liners and untreated materials were selected—avoiding plastics and treated or recycled wood in areas where the chickens could scratch, peck or ingest them.
A front yard designed to work as a family space, food garden and healthy little ecosystem—all at once.
